We carry out puncture repair, tyre replacement, balancing and wheel alignment (tracking), to suit your needs.
The wheels are basically the legs of your car, and the
tyres are the shoes. We all know that shoes need to be just right to make sure our body
doesn't go out of shape. Cars are no different.
When it comes to safety, tyres are one of the most important parts of your vehicle. The
tyre tread area making contact with the road is actually quite small. Imagine something
the size of your palm holding up the weight of your car at any given moment. So clearly,
worn or damaged tyres can seriously affect your car's safety and handling. Apart from
driving an unsafe vehicle you could be hit in the pocket too. If your tyres don't meet
legal requirements, you could face a fine up to £2,500 per tyre as well as 3 penalty
points on your licence.
Balancing
A wheel must be balanced every time it is mounted on an
axle, either for repair or rotation. Imperfections or blemishes in the rubber, and
damage to the tyre or rim can mean one section of the wheel is heavier. If a wheel is
out of balance, it will cause an uncomfortable vibration that can be felt in the
steering wheel and/or the seat. The tyre is often This can gradually cause excessive
tyre wear and create an uncomfortable ride quality. This can also prematurely wear your
tyres, suspension and steering components. Wheel balancing prolongs your tyre and car
life. It may even improve the fuel economy of your vehicle, saving you time and money in
the long-run.
All wheels removed from your vehicle will be balanced before being replaced. Wheel
balancing is included in the price of new tyres.
Alignment
Wheel alignment is sometimes referred to as tracking.
Where wheel balancing ensures that the weight is evenly distributed, wheel alignment
ensures they are pointing the right way, in a manner of speaking.
Alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are set to the car
manufacturer's specification. These adjustments to reduce tyre wear, and to ensure that
vehicle travels in a straight line (i.e.without "pulling" to one side). Correct wheel
alignment enhances vehicle handling and also reduces tyre wear.
Alignment problems can be caused when your car hits a kerb or pothole, or simply by
excessive wear to steering or suspension components. It is important to check the
alignment annually, to make sure you get the most out of your tyres.
